Starting Feb. 1, the USAG-Humphreys Tax Center will open its doors and provide free tax assistance and e-filing for all military, dependents, and DoD civilian personnel. The center is located at building S-751 and the hours of operations are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Wednesday and Friday and 1–7 p.m. on Thursdays. For locations and hours of other Tax Centers, contact your local legal assistance office.

Lego NXT Mindstorms Robotics Club, March 1, 15 & 29 @ Teen Center

A few months ago, SAS Technology Specialist Casey Batchelor introduced the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Club to the School Age Services youth, and this month he is introducing the club to the Middle School Teens. Mondays, March 1, 15 and 29 youth will get the opportunity to build, create and program robots learning science, engineering, technology and math concepts along the way. Green is the color of the day at the Child Development Center on Wednesday, March 17. Around the globe people celebrate this day with parades, parties and in Chicago over 100,000 people will witness the 40 year old tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green! The children are welcome to wear green as they observe the Irish holiday honoring the patron saint of Ireland - Saint Patrick, and will enjoy green themed art, cooking and science activities. Middle School Teen Adventure Trip: Korean War Museum, March 20 @ 0900

On Saturday, March 20 Humphreys Middle School/Teen’s are traveling to the Korean War Museum for their monthly adventure trip - but this destination is a good opportunity for anyone to visit while they are here. The museum is surrounded by a park displaying aircraft, tanks, and other fighting machines from the Korean War to the present. Inside you will find several display rooms showing almost 5,000 years of Korean military history. Fee for the trip is $5 and teens must register at the Teen Center by the March 18 deadline. Fees – Trip fee is $45 for adults, $25 for children. Fee includes transportation and on-bus snacks. Admission to Bullfights is 5,000w for adults and 4,000w for children. Kids 7 and under are free. Bullfighting is a 1,000 year old tradition in Korea and more than 100 bulls from Korea, the United States, Japan and Australia are expected to go horn-to-horn at this event. There will also be a special appearance by U.S. Servicemen from the Korea Armed Forces Rodeo Team. Other activities will include a belly dancing performance, a small circus and a bubble magic show. The USO is hosting a Mardi Gras Ball on Friday, March 26 at the Kabo Hotel in Pyongtaek. The event will feature a DJ, dancing, Texas Hold’em and catering – all Mardi Gras themed! They are selling tickets at the PX and Commissary throughout March and the first 75 people to sign-up will receive their tickets at a discounted price. Parent’s Date Night is FREE of charge thanks to the Army Family Covenant and is scheduled this month on Friday, March 26th at the Child Development Center. The free babysitting services can be used once a quarter and all children must be registered with Child, Youth and School Services to participate. Chinhae Cherry Blossom Festival –Saturday, March 27 @ 0600-2400

Fees – Trip Fee is $50 for adults, $25 for children. Fee includes transportation and on-bus snacks. Chinhae, home to US Naval Forces-Korea and the Korean Military Academies, is transformed into a city-wide celebration when the snowy-pink Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom. The festival honors the famous Korean naval hero Admiral Yi Sun-shin, and includes a parade and traditional Korean folk performances from musicians and dancers. The CYSS SKIESUnlimited program is introducing a FREE babysitting course starting in April. This three day course allows youth 12 years and older to develop skills needed to be caring, trustworthy and responsible babysitters. The training includes Infant-Child CPR and First Aid, and completion of the course is recognized by all CYSS Services world-wide. Remember the popular variety show from the 70’s called the Gong Show? Well, Humphreys Community Activity Center is bringing it back to life on Friday, April 30. All acts are welcome to include categories for Most Entertaining, Best Vocals, Best Dance, Best Talent, Best in Show and more. Each contestant is limited to a 3 minute act and takes the risk of being gonged after one minute. If the audience wishes to save you after the first gong a second gong will echo, and the act will continue until finished. Winners will be determined by audience applause. Active Duty, retirees, DoD Civilian, KATUSA’s and dependants are all welcome to participate. Sign up at the CAC by April 28 or call 753-8825 for more information.
